SAP (Secondary Audio Programming)

 

Introduction

  • Secondary Audio Program (SAP) is an alternative audio track for the visually impaired or a foreign language track
     
  • SAP tracks conform to a different broadcast standard than the multiple language tracks that are included with some programs

Resolution Steps



TiVo / IPTV Boxes

    Turning On SAP

      4 Tuners, 2 Tuners, Single Tuners, and Minis on TiVo Experience 3

        TiVo Central | Settings & Messages | Settings | Audio | Alternate Audio

         

        • Highlight change the Default Audio Language and press Select

        • If a program does not have an audio track in the selected language, the DVR will record the default audio track (which may be the only audio track) for the broadcast

          • This change only affects future recordings and live TV; it does affect previously-recorded programs

      4K 6 Tuners, 6 Tuners , 4K Minis, and Minis on TiVo Experience 4

        TiVo Home | arrow left to Menu | Settings | Audio & Video Settings

i-Guide Boxes

    Your Interface looks like this:

    1. Press Menu 2x

    2. Select Setup (usually on second screen)

    3. Select Audio Setup

    4. Select Default Audio Track, and use the ◄, ► keys to select Channel Default

    5. Other options include: English, Español, Français, and Português

    6. Press Exit when finished.

Passport Boxes

    Your Interface looks like this:

    1. Press MENU twice to get to the General Settings screen

    2. Use arrow keys to select Language

    3. Press OK/Select

    4. Scroll to Audio

    5. Press OK/Select

      • If Spanish has a bullet to the left of it, the guide's audio is set to it's secondary audio, SAP


    ENGLISH is not always the primary language on a channel. 

    • For instance, MTV Español broadcasts primarily in Spanish. English is broadcast as a secondary language

    • To change to English, scroll up to the English entry and press OK/SELECT. This disables the SAP on the Interactive Guide

    • Note: The customer actually has to choose English to get that channel to play in Spanish!

Evolution HD DTA

    1. Press Menu

    2. Select Settings

    3. Select Audio Language

    4. Scroll to select the desired Audio Language English Audio or Spanish Audio

      A * next to one of these selections means that is what the box is set to

       

    Alternate method

    • Press the A button on the your remote to toggle between SAP and Primary audio (See Equipment and Remotes for more info)

Cisco DTA

    1. Press Menu

    2. Press CH▼ two times to highlight Language and press Enter

    3. Press ► twice to move to Audio and choose English

    4. Press Menu to exit

TV

    • Check TV remote for SAP or MTS button

      1. Press the SAP/MTS button once 

      2. If audio does not return, press it again

    or

    • Check TV remote for a Menu or Settings button or on the front or side of the TV

      1. Press Menu button (a menu should display on screen)

      2. Identify Audio or Sound option on the TV menu

      3. After this is found, look for options like this:

        • SAP

        • MTS

        • MONO

        • MAIN

        • STEREO

      4. Choose MONO, MAIN, or STEREO
