• Aspect Ratio is the proportion between the width and height of a TV screen
   
• Resolution defines the amount of pixels displayed on the screen
   
  • 4K (Available on some TiVos)
     
  • 1080p  (Available on TiVo)
     
  • 1080i
     
  • 720p
     
  • 480i (Standard Definition)
     
  • i or p refers to the scanning technology
     
    • i = Interlaced scanning technology. It scans and refreshes even and odd lines separately, but produces very sharp pictures in general when the image is still or has little motion
       
    • p = Progressive scanning technology (newer). Scans and refreshes all lines at the same time. Progressive scanning produces smoother motion with less blurring. It's perfect for high action movies and sports.

Resolution

• 4 Tuners, 2 Tuners, S1ingle Tuners, and Minis on TiVo Experience 3

  • TiVo Central | Settings & Messages | Settings | Video | Video Output Format (see steps)
    1. Select all Output Formats compatible with the TV
        
    2. Highlight and select  Continue
        
    3. Press Thumbs Up three times to confirm

    4. Press the Live TV button to view programming
        

• 4K 6 Tuners, 6 Tuners , 4K Minis, and Minis on TiVo Experience 4

  • TiVo Home | left arrow to Menu | Settings | Audio & Video Settings | Video Resolution (see steps)
     
  1. Choose the highest resolution compatible with the TV
      
  2. Selection is automatically saved; press OK

Change Aspect Ratio

  • Go to TiVo Central | Settings & Messages | Settings | Video | TV Aspect Ratio (see steps)
     
  4K 6 Tuners, 6 Tuners , 4K Minis, and Minis on TiVo Experience 4
   
  • Go to TiVo Home | Left arrow to Menu | Settings | Audio & Video Settings | TV Aspect Ratiobr> (see steps)
     
• Select 16:9 Widescreen for a widescreen HD TV or 4:3 Classic Screen for a square, SD TV

Aspect Correction Mode

• 4 Tuners, 2 Tuners, Single Tuners, and Minis on TiVo Experience 3
   
  • Go to TiVo Central | Settings & Messages | Settings | Video | Aspect Correction Mode (see steps)
     
  4K 6 Tuners, 6 Tuners , 4K Minis, and Minis on TiVo Experience 4
   
  • Go to TiVo Home |  Left arrow to Menu | Settings | Audio & Video Settings | Aspect Correction Mode (see steps)
     
• Choose from:
   
  • Panel: adds letterbox bars or side bars to the picture to fill the screen, keeping the program's original aspect ratio
     
  • Zoom: enlarges the picture to fit the 16:9 screen without distortion
     
  • Full: stretches the picture to fill the entire TV screen without adding letterbox bars or side bars
