i or p refers to the scanning technology
-
i = Interlaced scanning technology. It scans and refreshes even and odd lines separately, but produces very sharp pictures in general when the image is still or has little motion
- p = Progressive scanning technology (newer). Scans and refreshes all lines at the same time. Progressive scanning produces smoother motion with less blurring. It's perfect for high action movies and sports.
